Avocado Pit Preparation for Lazy Growers

Ok, so now you've enjoyed your Avocado. Wash and save the pit! I've read that it's best to get it into water right away. But, if you are not quite ready, or already have a million attempts along your sunny window sill, you can put them in a bowl full of clean water, like I have. Probably don't want to leave them like that forever, but I'm eating them faster them I can baptise them.

As you can see, some have started to open up and I'd be wise to take the next step suspending them in a glass of water with tooth picks. The trick is to KNOW which side is the bottom! The bottom is the fatter end with the root bump. If you do it right, it'll look a little like this:

More on this, and waiting for a tap root, in the next post!

It starts with a good Avocado meal!

I'm not expert at it, but I'll walk you through all the steps I take to get an awesome lush tropical Avocado tree growing in your home. It all starts in the market! Select you avocados intuitively. Sometimes you'll see large over ripe Avocados that might be past prime for eating, but now and then have roots already germinating! It's rare, but it happens.
So anyhow, get you Avocado pit outta there, and make a nice meal while you contemplate your future Avocado tree. I like to spread the Avocado mash on a slice of Pumpernickel Rye bread and sprinkle with Cayenne Pepper. YUM! That's the way to go!
